London, UK – 9 July 2025

Mrs. Maureen Mba, former Director of Compliance and Head of the MANSA Digital Initiative at Afreximbank, has been honoured with the African Leadership Excellence Award at the 15th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2025, held during the ALM Africa Summit London.

This prestigious award recognises Mrs. Mba’s exceptional contributions to compliance, digital innovation, and transformative leadership within one of Africa’s leading financial institutions. As one of the founding staff of Afreximbank, she was instrumental in building the Bank’s Compliance Function from the ground up, transitioning it from a manual framework to a fully automated, policy-driven department aligned with global best practices.

Her legacy was further cemented through her leadership of the MANSA Digital Initiative, a groundbreaking platform that has grown into a continent-wide Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) repository. Today, MANSA hosts over 22,000 verified African entities and plays a critical role in enabling secure cross-border trade and financial transparency. Its strategic tools, such as the Africa Entity Identifier, have empowered banks, SMEs, and governments across the continent to conduct due diligence with confidence and ease.

Beyond systems and processes, Mrs. Mba is widely celebrated for her transformational leadership. She has consistently fostered innovation, mentored emerging talent, and championed women’s advancement in finance and governance. Her integrity, vision, and impact earned her recognition among the Top 10 Women Leaders in Finance in 2022 and several other industry accolades.

This award highlights her role as a standard-bearer in African leadership, with lasting influence across finance, governance, and digital transformation.
