NEW YORK, United States – 25 September 2025
His Excellency Philip Edward Davis, KC, MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, has been conferred with the prestigious Africa Diaspora Award by African Leadership Magazine at the Global Power Forum (GPF) 2025, held at the City University of New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The award celebrates leaders of African descent who have made significant contributions to global progress while championing stronger ties across the African diaspora. Prime Minister Davis was recognised for his principled leadership, his global advocacy for small island developing states, and his commitment to strengthening Africa–Caribbean cooperation.

From his humble beginnings on Cat Island to becoming the fifth Prime Minister of The Bahamas, Mr Davis’s journey epitomises resilience, determination, and service. His government has pursued a bold agenda of education reform, healthcare improvement, energy transition, digital transformation, and public service modernisation. Internationally, he has emerged as one of the most compelling voices for climate justice and economic fairness, insisting that partnerships must be equitable and inclusive.
He has used platforms such as the United Nations General Assembly and the COP climate summits to highlight the existential threat of climate change, particularly for vulnerable small island states. Under his leadership, The Bahamas has also championed deeper collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean, pressing for shared progress on reparations, trade equity, and development financing.
The Global Power Forum (GPF), convened by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) and the African Leadership Organisation (ALO), is a premier high-level platform that unites the legacies of the Global Power Women Conference (GPWC) and the International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL). Held annually in New York during UNGA, it brings together Heads of State, First Ladies, policymakers, CEOs, development partners, and global change-makers to amplify voices, foster partnerships, and strengthen leadership across the Global South.
In recognising Prime Minister Davis with the Africa Diaspora Award, African Leadership Magazine affirms its mission of spotlighting leaders whose work not only transforms their own nations but also strengthens the shared destiny of Africa and its diaspora in shaping a more equitable global future.
