Ex-President Mahama Laces Boots for another Presidential Bid!

Ghana’s immediate past president, John Dramani Mahama, has filed his nomination to re-contest as a presidential aspirant on the ticket of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Clad in white, and accompanied by his enchanted supporters, Ex-President Mahama on Monday filed his nomination at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra. He paid a total amount of GHS 320,000 (three hundred thousand cedis) equivalent to about $ 65,000 as filing fees.

Other contestants in the race include Prof. Joshua Alabi (former rector of the University of Professional Studies); Mr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah (former Trade and Industry Minister under President Mahama); Hon. Alan Bagbin (former Majority Leader of Parliament); and Mr. Sylvester Mensah (former CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority) and Mr. Goosie Tanoh (a former cadre in the Jerry Rawlings era);

Several analysts have predicted a landslide victory for former President Mahama who still enjoys overwhelming support among his party supporters in spite of his heavy defeat at the polls in December 2016.

Already, more than 90% of NDC parliamentarians and regional party chairmen have openly declared their support for Ex-President Mahama. On the campaign trail, he has also enjoyed support from his party’s grassroots.

Ex-President Mahama scored 44% of December 2016 while his major contender (and now president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo) scored 53% to win.

The NDC presidential primaries are slated for January 26, 2019.
