Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, former President of Tanzania, will feature in the Heads of State & Government Interventions session at the 2026 International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL), to be held on 24 September at the Marriott Marquis, Broadway, New York, during United Nations General Assembly week. The session brings together current and former heads of state and government under the forum’s theme, “The Global African Alliance: Reimagining Solidarity, Sovereignty & South–South Cooperation.”

Dr Kikwete served as President of Tanzania from 2005 to 2015. Before assuming the presidency, he held ministerial portfolios including Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Energy and Minerals. He has also held major continental and regional leadership roles, including Chair of the African Union, the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and has participated in several African peace and mediation initiatives.
Dr Kikwete joins fellow heads of state and government — including His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of Zambia, and Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize — in a session dedicated to shaping policy direction on African and Caribbean sovereignty and cooperation.
IFAL is a flagship event of the African Leadership Magazine, convened annually on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. The forum brings together heads of state, policymakers, investors and private-sector leaders from Africa and the Caribbean to strengthen trans-regional cooperation, trade and investment.
