The government of Mozambique has proposed to increase electricity in the country through small renewable energy projects that will be given to foreign investors. Reports say the deal will attract the sum of $500 million in investment and provide electricity to everyone in the southern African country by 2030.

“The initiative is intended to ensure that within a 15 year horizon the Mozambican population has access to electricity outside the national power grid, thanks to small autonomous systems,” the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy said.

About 60% of the villages in Mozambique do not have access to electricity hence the need for this project. About 332 villages’ access to electricity is dependent on the success of the project.

Electricity will be made available to the villages using hydro and solar power.
