Namibia: Barloworld, Caterpillar to Install 7MW Solar Power Plant at Otjikoto Mine

A 7MW solar power plant is set to be installed at the Otjikoto mine, Namibia.

Cat dealer, Barloworld, and Caterpillar have been appointed by B2Gold to supply engineering, procurement and construction services to speed up installations with hopes that the solar power plant will be completed in early 2018.

The installation includes Cat photovoltaic (PV) solar modules and the Cat microgrid master controller (MMC).

The full system will help reduce reliance on a heavy fuel oil power plant which currently powers the mining facility.

The B2Gold MD said in a statement, “As one of the largest solar installations in Namibia, the facility will help us to leverage a plentiful, renewable resource, while at the same time improving the quality of life for nearby communities.”
