Nigeria: FG, #ASUU Agrees on Conditional Suspension of Five Weeks Strike

The five weeks ASUU strike has been called off. This announcement was declared yesterday by the Nigerian Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

Following a four hours meeting that ensued between members of the ASUU union including the President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi and Federal Government Negotiation Team both parties have signed an agreed memorandum of action which the federal government is expected to implement soon in order to avoid further strike in future.

According to Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi, he stated that based on the agreement, all negotiations had a time line and if they are not implemented, the union will not hesitate to take appropriate action.

The agreements covered; revitalization of public universities, Academic Allowances, University Staff Schools and the implementation of the judgement of the National Industrial Court, National Universities Pension Management Company, and guidelines for pension matters for Professors.
