A 20-foot-tall statue of Obafemi Awolowo, the former Premier of Western Region has been unveiled by the Lagos State Government in Ikeja.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, The State Governor stated that Awolowo, during his time, had charged leaders to embrace true federalism and devolution of powers, as it is the only thing that can prevent the country from division.

He also said that the statue wasn’t built to beautify the state, but instead is a constant reminder to future generations of the need to value the sacrifices of heroes of yesteryears.
