SESSION’S BRIEF

The African Leadership magazine in conjunction with the African Leadership UK Limited and the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD), presents, the High-level Panel Session on “Intra-Africa Trade, Customs and Standards”, on the margins of the 3rd Africa Summit – London 2019, with the theme set as: Intra-African Trade: Beyond Rhetoric and Political Commitments.

The role of customs in trade facilitation has gained increasing prominence in most regional trade agendas, largely due to the fact that it is the a customs responsibility to implement the tariff liberalization commitments under the RTAs. Therefore, the High-level Panel Session on “Intra-Africa Trade, Customs and Standards” is for professionals, experts and leadership of Customs in AU member states to engage in a candid and constructive dialogue to address intricate cross-border issues, drawing upon the local knowledge and practical experience, and exploring a major institution-building effort to reform and improve customs administration so that customs facilitates, rather than obstructs, intra-Africa trade and regional integration.
