Brima Baluwa Koroma, Director General of Sierra Leone’s National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), has been honoured with the African Regulator of the Year award at the 15th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2025, hosted during the ALM Africa Summit London.
The award recognises Mr. Koroma’s transformative leadership in strengthening regulatory governance and transparency in Sierra Leone’s petroleum sector. Under his guidance, the NPRA has evolved into a modern, efficient, and trusted institution, promoting responsible resource management, investor confidence, and national development.
Since assuming leadership of the NPRA, Mr. Koroma has spearheaded critical reforms, including the streamlining of regulatory frameworks, the adoption of digital monitoring systems, and the enforcement of best practices aligned with global standards. These efforts have significantly enhanced operational efficiency, environmental compliance, and accountability within Sierra Leone’s petroleum value chain.
The African Regulator of the Year honour reflects not only Mr. Koroma’s commitment to institutional excellence but also the growing recognition of regulatory leadership as a cornerstone of sustainable economic progress across the continent.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Koroma emphasised the role of strong institutions in unlocking Africa’s energy potential and reaffirmed NPRA’s commitment to transparency, local content development, and long-term energy security for Sierra Leone.
