MultiChoice Africa has revealed plans to create an academy for young, upcoming filmmakers. The academy aims to develop the television, film and entertainment industries in general. This 12-month intensive training programme will focus on impacting the technical and professional value chain positively across the continent. There will be three regional academies located in Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia with 20 students per region delivering 60 emerging filmmakers and creatives annually.

At the Uganda launch held at the head office in Kololo, MultiChoice Uganda chairman, Steven Musoke, stated that this initiative would give filmmakers the required experience needed to add value to the entertainment industry.

“The graduates will contribute to both the local content and talent pool, producing films that will be showcased on local channels such as Maisha Magic East across the MultiChoice Africa platform,” he said.

Application is now open and ends on July 5 before the programme kicks off on October 1, 2018. MultiChoice Uganda publicist, Tina Wamala, said the judges picking the finalist per country would be looking out for passionate filmmakers. She also added the online application portal will become a database for those looking to collaborate on projects.

Gerald Sserunjogi, the president of Uganda Film Producers Association, said the academy is a great idea that needs the support of the association because of the extent of development it would eventually bring to the entertainment industry.
