The ministry of education in Zambia has announced that the inaugural International Conference on Girls’ Education in Africa will be hosted in the country.
The three-day event is slated to hold from August 23rd to 25th hosting three African first ladies who are part of the 500 delegates expected to be in attendance.
According to a statement released by the ministry, the conference is sponsored by the Forum for African Women Educationalists in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
Minister of Education Dennis Wanchinga said in the statement that the first ladies from Malawi, Mali, and Uganda will be among delegates at the conference to be held under the theme “Towards Gender Equality in Education in Africa”.
“The conference will provide a platform to share replicable solutions to current systematic and community-based factors that continue to hinder girls and women from accessing and benefiting equitably from available education opportunities and resources,” he said.
The first ladies will use the conference to dialogue on out-of-school youths, and explore strategies on increasing access to girls’ education, he added.
