South Africa: Mining Company Partner with Stanford to Launch US$3 Million Youth Development Initiative

De Beers Group South Africa’s mining giants have recently partnered with Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB) to set up a US$3 million three-year plan for youth development in Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.

The initiative is aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs and established business owners in these three countries positioning the headquarters at Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH).

A number of governmental parastatals have pledged their support to the new De Beers Group funded programme including Botswana’s Ministry of Tertiary Education and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport & Culture Development.

Also, members of the two countries have expressed their full joy with un-delayed excitement to begin the program as soon as possible.

Speaking of the programme, Dr. Alfred Madigele, Minister of Tertiary Education for the Government of the Republic of Botswana said, “We welcome the private sector’s support in developing programmes that will enhance diversity and have a positive socio-economic impact on the youth. Through The Botswana Innovation Hub, Government will provide the facilities, infrastructure, operational and technical support for the programme which has the potential to have an important impact on our economic future.”
