His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, has been named African Governor of the Year (Infrastructure Development Category) at the 15th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2025, held during the ALM Africa Summit London.
Governor Eno, recognised for his forward-thinking leadership in infrastructure development and urban planning, key pillars that are driving Akwa Ibom’s transformation into an investment-ready and people-focused state. His administration’s initiatives in land reform, infrastructure access, and streamlined compensation processes have created a stable and investor-friendly environment that supports inclusive growth.
Among his notable achievements is the institutionalisation of best practices in the payment of compensation and the preparation of site plans, ensuring fair and efficient land allocation to investors. His government has also undertaken the enumeration and valuation of key sites for large-scale investments, set up a land verification and recovery committee, and registered numerous land instruments to support revenue mobilisation. The prompt signing and release of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) further demonstrates his administration’s commitment to transparency and ease of doing business.
In the water sector, Governor Eno has initiated and completed several impactful projects, including a comprehensive review of the Akwa Ibom State Water Sector Draft Bill laying the groundwork for long-term, sustainable water infrastructure.
This award acknowledges Governor Eno’s dedication to building the foundational systems that support development, attract investment, and improve the quality of life for the people of Akwa Ibom.
