Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) Ghana, has been honoured with the Special African Banking Leadership Commendation Award and Digital Bank of the Year (Ghana) at the 15th ALM Persons of the Year Ceremony held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra.
The prestigious recognition celebrates his transformative leadership in Ghana’s banking sector, particularly in advancing digital banking innovation, strengthening financial inclusion, and driving operational excellence. Since his appointment as Managing Director in April 2025, Dr. Oti-Mensah has steered UMB Ghana through a renewed strategic direction anchored on technology-driven growth, customer-centric service delivery, and sustainable financial performance.

The Special African Banking Leadership Commendation Award recognises exceptional financial sector leaders whose vision, governance standards, and innovation contribute significantly to economic development and financial sector resilience across Africa. The Digital Bank of the Year (Ghana) award acknowledges institutions that demonstrate excellence in leveraging technology to deliver secure, accessible, and customer-focused banking solutions.
The 15th ALM Persons of the Year Ceremony convened high-level political leaders, captains of industry, policymakers, diplomats, and development partners from across Africa and beyond.
