H.E. Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State, Nigeria, is confirmed to participate in the International Forum on African Caribbean Leadership (IFAL) 2026, taking place on 24 September at the Marriott Marquis, Broadway, New York, during United Nations General Assembly Week.
Governor Buni will feature in the Public Sector & Subnational Leadership Spotlight, a session highlighting the role of subnational governance in advancing Africa’s development and strengthening its position in the global arena. The session is linked to the Top 25 African Leading Governors Yearbook 2026.
Buni has served as Governor of Yobe State since 2019. Before becoming governor, he served as National Secretary of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress and later as Chairman of the party’s Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

Under his administration, Yobe State has pursued initiatives across education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and economic development, with particular attention to expanding public services and supporting livelihoods.
His participation at IFAL 2026 will bring a Nigerian subnational perspective to discussions on governance, development and the wider vision of a Global African Alliance built around solidarity, sovereignty and South–South cooperation.
The forum brings together African and Caribbean political, business and institutional leaders during UN General Assembly Week to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration across the two regions.
