H.E. Mohamed Ould Khaled, Minister of Energy and Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, has been honoured with the African Leadership Excellence Award in Energy Leadership, Strategic Resource Governance & Sustainable Mineral Development at the 2026 International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL), held on 24 September at the Marriott Marquis, Broadway, New York, during United Nations General Assembly week. The recognition was conferred during the forum’s Recognitions & Awards presentation, hosted by African Leadership Magazine.

The award recognises Mr Ould Khaled’s stewardship of Mauritania’s energy and mineral resource sector and his broader contribution to strategic resource governance across the region.
Mohamed Ould Mohamed MAA El-Ainin Ould Khaled has served as Mauritania’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum since August 2024. He previously served as Director of the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company and has extensive private-sector experience in mining, logistics and industrial businesses. Earlier in his career, he held senior international commercial positions with Texas Instruments in China and Europe.
IFAL is a flagship event of the African Leadership Magazine, convened annually on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. The forum brings together heads of state, policymakers, investors and private-sector leaders from Africa and the Caribbean to strengthen trans-regional cooperation, trade and investment.
