African Leadership Magazine Rewards Business Excellence In London

The 6th African Business Leadership Forum and Awards has just concluded with a call on African Business leaders to commit more to taking care of their host communities and society in general.  The event which had as theme: Africa Rising – Showcasing Excellence in the New Frontier, took place at the Hilton London Metropole, London United Kingdom on 25 July 2015. Speaking at the ceremony, Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the African Leadership magazine, Dr. Ken Giami made the call, while commending the current crop of Africa’s private sector players as key to the continued growth and investment climate currently enjoyed by the continent.

With a diverse audience composed of senior government officials and policy makers, members of the diplomatic corps, African Business leaders and the investment public, the awards ceremony was yet another testament to the progress been made by African business leaders in the narrative on Africa rising. The event with the theme ‘Africa Rising-Rewarding Excellence in the New Frontier’ had in attendance leading business executives and policy leaders from the continent.

This year’s recipients cut across various sectors and countries on the continent. Some of the award recipients included the Governor of the Central Bank of the Seychelles, Ms. Caroline Abel who emerged as the Female Public Servant of the Year; Honorable Axel Addy, Liberia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry as the Investment Minister of the Year; ; the immediate past governor of Mauritius’ Central Bank ,Mr. Rundheersing  Bheenick who emerged as the Outstanding Bank Governor for the year 2014. Oscar Onyema, CEO of the Nigerian Stock Exchange was announced Regulator of the Year, while Ms. Sola David-Borha was announced Female Business Leader Award recipient in a tie with South Africa’s Daphne Nkosi of the Kalagadi Manganese Pty Ltd. Other honorees during the event included the CEO of Airtel Network Ltd Nigeria Mr. Segun Ogunsanya receiving TELCO of the year on behalf of the company; Chairman of Momas Electricity Meters, Engr. Kola Balogun as well as the frontline Economist and Founding CEO of the Afrexim Bank, Dr. Christopher Edordu were also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.ALM2015 (192)

Speaking on behalf of the recipient, Ms. Daphne Nkosi, who emerged saluted the effort of the African Leadership magazine for promoting Brand Africa and assured of the commitment of the honorees to continue to show leadership on the continent. She especially espoused the need for more women to be involved in the economic development of the continent, as only then would society get the best from her entrepreneurs.

Highlights of the event, was the award presentation to deserving African Business Leaders from the African Leadership magazine and a special legislative commendation by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. In selecting the awardees for the annual honour, African Leadership magazine conducted a survey among over 480,000 readers both online and offline, from where the Editorial Board of the magazine draws a final list.

Past recipients of the Prestigeous African Leadership Awards include Dr. Mo Ibrahim, Founder of the  Mo Ibrahim prize for African Leadership; H.E. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President Ernest Bai Koroma, President of Sierra Leone; Equity Bank of Kenya, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former Governor of the Nigerian Central Bank; Dr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, Mr. Abdoulaye Janneh, former Executive Secretary of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Shell Petroleum, amongst others.
