AU mission to observe Uganda’s Feb. elections

The chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC)‚ Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma‚ has recently approved the deployment of an AU mission to observe Uganda’s coming elections.
Uganda will hold presidential‚ parliamentary and local council elections on February 18.
Lady Justice Sophia AB Akuffo‚ a judge of Ghana’s Supreme Court of Justice and former President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights will lead the AU mission.
The mission will comprise 40 observers drawn from members of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) of the AU‚ the Pan-African Parliament‚ African election management bodies‚ civil society organisations working in the area of democracy‚ governance and elections in Africa‚ think tanks‚ and independent election experts.
AU observers will be deployed from February 10 to 22 to observe the voting‚ counting and announcement of election results.
