Botswana: Orange Foundation Opens Second Women Digital Centre

The World is constantly advancing when it comes to technology and the digital age, therefore it is important that irrespective of gender group, the availability of learning materials should be easily available by everyone interested.

It is with this in mind, that the Orange Foundation in collaboration with the Project Concern International (PCI), Botswana is launching its second women digital centre in Molepolole. The centre is established with the sole aim of increasing the employability and financial independence of women.

The Public Relations and Foundation Manager, Ms Boga Chilinde-Masembu said that the programme will ensure the inclusion of women in the digital world as it empowers girl-child across the country and reduce economic vulnerability of women with training in digital technology.

She added “The digital centres are designed to offer basic courses based on the specific needs of women supported by digital tools, thereby promoting digital inclusion”.

Management skills and the use of basic software will be taught to also increase the employability and managerial skills of the women.

The programme is designed to be a cost effective social and economic improvement initiative with organized beneficiaries who will be taught how to manage their finances and generate new income streams.

Over 100 women from Molepolole and its surrounding areas are expected to use the Molepolole digital centre which has learning modules and the technological knowledge of these groups will be enhanced.

There are plans to renovate the Mme Thari Digital Centre and as well furnished with computers, tablets, a video projector, printer and USB sticks for each woman to save their daily work.
