New York, USA – Engr. Victor B. Mapani, Managing Director of the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO), received both the African Leadership Special Commendation Award and a Congressional Commendation at the 2024 International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL). These honours recognise his leadership in Zambia’s energy sector and his contributions to power infrastructure development.
With over two decades of experience, Engr. Mapani has played a pivotal role in transforming ZESCO into a forward-looking energy company. Under his leadership, ZESCO has expanded Zambia’s national grid, improved power generation capacity, and integrated renewable energy solutions, contributing to the country’s socio-economic progress.
The award comes at a time when ZESCO is implementing innovative initiatives aimed at modernising power infrastructure and positioning Zambia as a leader in renewable energy adoption. These efforts align with the sustainable development goals highlighted at IFAL 2024, which focused on “Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Drive Transformation towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies.”
The event featured prominent figures from Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond, including H.E. Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya; H.E. Nomvula Paula Mokonyane, Deputy Secretary-General of the African National Congress, South Africa; Ms. Reta Jo Lewis, President of the U.S. Export-Import (EXIM) Bank; and H.E. Sen. Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.
Engr. Mapani’s recognition underscores the importance of innovative leadership and strategic initiatives in tackling global challenges such as climate change and sustainable economic development. His ongoing commitment to operational excellence and sustainability in Zambia’s energy sector continues to influence the future of energy infrastructure in Zambia and across Africa.
