As part of her effort towards promoting greater people-to-people as well as government-to-government interactions, the French government through its embassy in Nigeria recently honored Honorable Garba Mohammed Ibrahim, with the Medal in the Order of Academic Palms. The Medal which was presented to Hon. Ibrahim by the French Ambassador to Nigeria His Excellency  Mr. Denis Guaer, at the France Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, is for his contribution towards the promotion of Nigeria-France Relations.

Hon. Ibrahim who is a serving member of Nigeria’s House of Representative, was accompanied to the reception by friends, wellwishers and colleagues including the immediate past governor of Kano State and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso; the Leader of the House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila amongst others.

The Ambassador, while presenting the medal maintained that “the recognition is of special merits in inter-cultural links and educational (academics) matters, adding that “culture is a fundamental part of life and international relations”. He further stated that Hon. Ibrahim showed special dedication, cooperation and partnership with France and established technical training, agricultural training, and scholarship cooperation and agreement between France and Kano State.

The awardee, Hon. Ibrahim, who began studies in Kano, relocated to France at the age of 19 for studies. He started by studying the French Language and afterwards studied Automobile Engineering. When he came back to Nigeria, he worked with Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) and kept relations with France.Hon. Ibrahim, who has Masters in Business Administration, was the Kano State Commission for Science and Technology and later,Commissioner for Education.

The awardee in his acceptance speech thanked the ambassador and the French Government for finding him worthy of the award. He noted that the award is an extension to his state, especially for the French school commission in his home town. He requested for the continuous assistance of the French Government in areas of education and enlightenment of young people in the state.
