Kenyan President Appoints First Female Army Brigadier

The Kenya Defence Forces have appointed the first female Brigadier in its ranks following promotions announced yesterday.

Colonel Fatumah Ahmed was promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed managing director, the Defence Forces Medical Insurance Scheme.

A statement from assistant director Bogita Ongeri said that Brig Ahmed’s appointment was announced by President Uhuru Kenyattta, “on the advice of the Defence Council, chaired by Ambassador Raychelle Omamo, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Defence.”

The Navy Commander, Major General Ngewa Mukala, has been re-deployed to the Defence Staff College and appointed Commandant.

Brig Levi Franklin Mghalu has been promoted to Major General and appointed ?Kenya Navy Commander replacing Maj Gen Mukala.

Maj Gen George Mayamba Owino has been posted to the Kenya Military Academy and appointed Commandant.

Colonel George Odhiambo Walwa has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed Chief of Operations (Defence Headquarters).

Col William K Karisa Shume has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed ?Commander 6 Brigade.

Col Henry Noah Ofulah has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed ?Commander Kahawa Garrison.

Col Patrick Muta Nderitu too has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed ?Director International Peace Support Training Centre, Embakasi.

Col Godfrey P. Buluma is another officer who has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Operations, Plans & Training at the Kenya Army Headquarters.

Col James Magige Gitiba has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed? Chief of Logistics at the Kenya Army Headquarters.

Col Simon Mureithi Wachira has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier and appointed ?Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor, Defence Staff College.

Col Vincent Naisho Loonena has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed? Base Commander, Mtongwe.
