Nigeria: Dolapo Osibajo Advocates for the Girl Child

The wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, made a plea to Nigerians to assist vulnerable female children in order to help them achieve greatness.

Dolapo Osinbajo, who was a special guest at a fund raising/gala night organised by Diamond Lights Women Empowerment Initiative (DLWEI), stated that women constitutes over 50 per cent of the Nigerian population and that a number of them require assistance from kind-hearted Nigerians.

Soliciting support for the initiative, Dolapo Osinbajo said: “I know not many of us have ever known heart break. Perhaps we have never known disappointment. May be we have never had dashed hope or dreams, because we have great support structure.

“Let me tell you, many people stand at a cross road. Many choose to drop out of school. They may choose to become a commodity to be sold to men who pretend like they don’t have mothers, wives, sisters or daughters. Yet they buy an hour of their time.

“Some are educated but they are helpless and powerless. They are inaccessible and ill-equipped. They stand at a cross road. We stand at cross road. Diamond Light stands at cross road. Diamond Light has chosen to lend a helping hand. Diamond Light has chosen to help them go into greatness, knowing that if you know better, you will do better.

“I don’t know about you, but don’t you like our daughters like the three beautiful ladies (some previous beneficiaries), that came here to stand up and say ‘I’m an Accountant, or a doctor, or I’m studying to be a Surgeon, or do you want them to be filthy, dirty, sick, sad, heart-broken and in great despair?”

According to Kasali, the DLWEI requires about N100m to take the initiative to the North-central and North-east, to help displaced women and girls.
