Uganda: Deadly Flood Displaces Thousands in Elegu

A heavy down pour of rain fell on Elegu trading center in Amuru district, on Tuesday evening, causing the displacement of three thousand people.

The downpour led to an uncontrollable flood after the River Unyama burst its banks, as a result of the rain.

Several bridges in the sub-counties of Pabbo and Atiak were destroyed by the flood and about 1,500 traders have lost their goods.

One of the traders Mr. Ali Bahkit, who was also affected by the flood, told the media that “All the shops were swept away; most of the merchandises were washed away. People have nowhere to go and we are asking the government to intervene.”
