Zambia cabinet approves $275 million Chinese housing loan

In a bid to ease the housing challenges of security workers in Zambia, the presidency in a statement has recently announced that Zambia’s cabinet has approved plans to borrow $275 million from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, for the construction of housing units for its security wings.
Presidential spokesman Amos Chanda, said the loan would provide resources for the project which is expected to ease housing shortage within Zambia’s police, prisons, immigration department and intelligence department. The project is expected to provide 2,350 houses.
Cabinet has also approved contraction of a loan from the World Bank amounting to US$65 million to support the implementation of girls’ education and women’s empowerment and livelihood project countrywide.
