His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, has been honoured with the African Inspirational Leadership Award at the 2026 International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL), held on 24 September at the Marriott Marquis, Broadway, New York, during United Nations General Assembly week. The recognition was conferred during the forum’s Recognitions & Awards presentation, hosted by African Leadership Magazine.

The award recognises President Hichilema’s journey from business leadership to the presidency, and his continued advocacy for private-sector-led economic growth across Africa.
Before entering national political leadership, President Hichilema built a business career, serving as chief executive of Coopers Lybrand Zambia and Grant Thornton Zambia. He has also chaired the boards of Barclays Bank Zambia, Sun International and Africa Trade Insurance. He was elected President of Zambia in August 2021.
IFAL is a flagship event of the African Leadership Magazine, convened annually on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. The forum brings together heads of state, policymakers, investors and private-sector leaders from Africa and the Caribbean to strengthen trans-regional cooperation, trade and investment.
