Zimnat Life, a leading insurance company in Zimbabwe, has recently launched a new life policy product that caters for people living with HIV in the country.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Zimnat Managing Director Mr. Munyaradzi Javangwe said the policy known as ‘My Legacy Plan’ is available to people aged between 18 to 60 years on anti-retro viral treatment.”Depending on an individual needs, the cover ranges from $10 000 to $250 000 while the premium starts from as low as $25,” said Mr Javangwe.

The life policy specifically targets HIV positive people who were previously marginalised and excluded from life policy products in Zimbabwe.

Mr Javangwe said the policy had a flexible premium payment frequency ranging from monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual.

It is the first of its kind in the country. It is estimated that about 1.3 million Zimbabweans are infected with HIV while 600 000 adults are on anti-retro viral treatment.

“HIV is now a manageable condition thus it is necessary to disassociate people living with the virus from discrimination,” said Mr Javangwe.

He said regardless of their health status, no one should be deprived of the right to leave a legacy to their loved ones.

“We found it necessary to review our practices to give this community an equal opportunity to leave a lasting legacy, hence the brand name My Legacy Plan”.

Zimnat life offers other products which include Funeral Cover for locals and those in the Diaspora, Whole Life, Pension and Education Policies covering all fundamental areas of life stages.
