Lukashenko meets with Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir at Palace of Independence

The official talks of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Sudan President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir are taking place at the Palace of Independence, BelTA informs.

The meeting of the heads of state began with official events. In the hall for solemn gatherings Alexander Lukashenko welcomed his Sudanese counterpart. After the photo opportunity, the presidents proceeded to the narrow-format talks.

The heads of state will take stock of the progress made in the implementation of the previous agreements. The focus will be on the most promising areas for further development of trade and economic cooperation, including industrial cooperation, agriculture, energy, mining, and humanitarian activities. The talks will also raise issues of political interaction between Belarus and Sudan. The presidents will discuss international issues.

Alexander Lukashenko and Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir are expected to adopt a joint statement after the talks. A number of international documents on cooperation in various areas will be signed in the presence of the two leaders.

The economic relations of Belarus and Sudan are developing on the basis of the bilateral agreement on trade, investment and sci-tech cooperation which was signed in 2004.

In 2018 Belarus exported tractor equipment, metal products, combustion engines, pumps and compressors, electric equipment, plumbing connections and other products to Sudan.

The most promising projects for Belarusian companies are those in gold mining, energy sector and construction, organization of joint ventures to assemble cars and agricultural equipment, meat processing and dairy factories in Sudan, promotion of Belarusian educational services.
