Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza, Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Office of the President, Republic of Uganda, has been honoured with the Special African Public Service Excellence Award at the prestigious Global Power Forum (GPF), held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The award recognises Dr. Musenero’s extraordinary contributions to public service, her trailblazing work in science, technology, and innovation, and her pivotal leadership in epidemic preparedness and response in Africa. From guiding Uganda’s COVID-19 strategy to her globally acclaimed role in containing the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, Dr. Musenero has consistently demonstrated resilience, vision, and dedication to human security.
As Uganda’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, she has championed programmes such as E-Mobility, Pathogen Economy, Infrastructure Innovation, and Space & Aeronautics, while pioneering flagship institutions including the Kiira Vehicle Plant, the Biosciences Park, and Coffee Innovation Hubs. Her reforms have positioned STI as a central driver of Uganda’s Vision 2040, with an emphasis on grassroots transformation, industrialisation, and climate-smart innovation.
The award also celebrates her efforts in strengthening Africa’s STI ecosystem, creating opportunities for young innovators, and ensuring that science and technology directly improve the lives of communities across the continent.
The Global Power Forum (GPF), convened by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD) and the African Leadership Organisation (ALO), is a premier high-level platform that unites the legacies of the Global Power Women Conference (GPWC) and the International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL). Held annually in New York during UNGA, it brings together Heads of State, First Ladies, policymakers, CEOs, development partners, and global change-makers to amplify voices, foster partnerships, and strengthen leadership across the Global South.
