The African Business Leadership Awards remain one of Africa’s most respected platforms for celebrating visionary leaders whose innovation, integrity, and commitment continue to shape the continent’s economic future. The 16th edition is expected to bring together an influential network of government officials, business executives, investors, diplomats, development partners, and thought leaders from across Africa and the international community.
Based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Dr Getachew serves as Chief Executive Officer of Afrolinks PLC, an Ethiopian company specialising in mineral extraction, exploration, and commodity trading. Under his executive leadership, the company has emerged as a notable player in the sourcing, trading, and development of critical and precious commodities essential to global technology and manufacturing supply chains, including gold trading, lithium and battery minerals, and industrial quarry minerals.
Dr Getachew’s professional expertise extends well beyond corporate leadership. With multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD, MS, MA, and BA, he has established himself as a leading voice on some of the extractive sector’s most complex challenges. His core areas of specialisation include mining-induced resettlement, where he manages the socio-economic transition of local populations displaced by mining activity; livelihood restoration, through which he structures community programmes to rebuild income streams and stability for affected residents; and stakeholder engagement, where he bridges the gap between foreign investors, regulatory government bodies, and indigenous communities.
His extensive career prior to leading Afrolinks includes significant local engineering and community relations experience with major infrastructure and exploration projects in Ethiopia, including roles associated with KEFI Minerals PLC, operators of the Tulu Capi gold project, and Web Gemstone Mining. These experiences have equipped him with deep practical insight into the operational, regulatory, and social dimensions of resource development across the region.
As a featured speaker at ABLA 2026, Dr Getachew will share valuable perspectives on Africa’s mineral wealth as a catalyst for sustainable development, the importance of community-centred mining practices, strategies for attracting responsible investment into the extractive sector, and the critical role of ethical resource management in driving long-term economic prosperity across the continent.
Speaking on his confirmation, the editorial board of African Leadership Magazine praised Dr Getachew’s distinctive contributions to Africa’s mining industry and community development.
“Dr Mesfin Getachew embodies the principled and forward-thinking leadership that Africa’s extractive sector requires in this era of global energy transition and heightened expectations for responsible business conduct. His work at Afrolinks Minerals Mining demonstrates that mineral wealth, when managed with integrity and community focus, can become a genuine engine for inclusive growth and shared prosperity. We are honoured to welcome him as both a distinguished speaker and honouree at the 16th African Business Leadership Awards,” the organisers stated.
The honour recognises Dr Getachew’s exceptional contributions to sustainable mining, community empowerment, ethical resource governance, and the advancement of East Africa’s extractive industries as a force for positive economic transformation.
The 16th African Business Leadership Awards will feature high-level panel discussions, investment forums, policy dialogues, executive networking sessions, leadership showcases, and strategic partnership engagements designed to foster collaboration and accelerate Africa’s sustainable development agenda.
