Ms Katia Epalanga, President of Muhatu Energy Angola and an Executive Director of Sonangol, has been honoured with the African Energy Transformation & Strategic Leadership Excellence Award at the 2026 International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL), held on 24 September at the Marriott Marquis, Broadway, New York, during United Nations General Assembly week. The recognition was conferred during the forum’s Recognitions & Awards presentation, hosted by African Leadership Magazine.

The award celebrates Ms Epalanga’s leadership in Angola’s energy sector and her role in expanding the participation of women within the country’s petroleum industry.
Ms Epalanga assumed the presidency of Muhatu Energy Angola in March 2026, succeeding Nicola Mvuayi. Muhatu Energy Angola is focused on increasing the visibility, participation and advancement of women in Angola’s petroleum sector, working alongside Sonangol, the national oil company, where Ms Epalanga also serves as an Executive Director.
IFAL is a flagship event of the African Leadership Magazine, convened annually on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly. The forum brings together heads of state, policymakers, investors and private-sector leaders from Africa and the Caribbean to strengthen trans-regional cooperation, trade and investment.
