AfDB Strategize to Strenghten Cassava Industrialization

The African Development Bank (AfDB) in its quest to encourage the production of crops with high potential for industrialization of agriculture in Africa, has intensified its financing of cassava production.

The senior officer at the bank revealed that cassava can be used for the production of ethanol which finds its use in industries as well as other commonly used domestic products.

The Bank’s Vice-President of Agriculture, Human and Social Development’s advisor, Martin Fregene, revealed that the bank’s Feed Africa Strategy, which focuses primarily on building the production process of cassava is being executed in partnership with research and development organizations to come up with improved cassava varieties possessing higher ethanol content and longer shelf lives. to reduce post-harvest losses during factory transportation.

This is to cut down on the losses which occur in the process of transporting the produce to the factory.
