Ethiopia: University Set to Encourage Women Researchers

The Addis Ababa Science and Technology University Technology Transfer and Research Directorate has recently organized a day-long workshop to enhance the number of woman researchers.
University Lecturer Gender Office and HIV and AIDS Control and Prevention Directorate Director Amirotie Seifu said that the office is working to create and promote a conducive environment for woman researchers. The workshop aims at setting platform to enable students and researchers innovate, develop and contribute their share in science and technology sector, she added.
Addis Ababa University Natural Science College Lecturer and Researcher Dr. Yalemtsehay Mekonnen said that the workshop is a good platform to identify problems that hinder women in doing researches. This workshop enables woman researchers come together to coordinate and create enabling research environment, she added.
The workshop was held with the theme ‘The role of woman scholars in promoting science, technology and innovation’. Women researchers from Addis Ababa, Makalle, Jimma, Dilla, Dire Dawa and other universities took part in the workshop
