Ghana is about to take further drastic steps towards environmental pollution. The chief justice of Ghana Justice Sophia A.B. Akuffo, at the opening of the Annual General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), requested for the establishment of Special Courts that will be fully in charge of prosecution for environmental decadence.

The event was captioned “Saving the Future Generation from the Scourge of Corruption and Environmental Degradation – The Role of the Legal Profession”.

The chief Justice said the creation of these Courts, would aid the government control over illegal mining activities in the country.

“It is unfortunate to reflect at the rapidly increasing pace of indiscipline in the legal profession” Akuffo stressed.

“Corruption is an indictment on our profession.”

She calls on the GBA, media, civil society organizations, law enforcement, and security agencies to merge in the fight against the problem.
