Muslims in the diaspora joined other Muslims all over the world as they marked the  New Year on the 21 September 2017 which is also equivalent to 1st of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Based on the Islamic calendar the Muslims have now entered the year 1439 Hijri. Unlike the Gregorian calendar which is mostly used all around the world and counts 365/366 days, the Hijri calendar is used across most of the Arab world and has minimum 354 days, because the Hijri Calendar follows the movements of the moon.
