Nigeria is set to host a landmark Green Economy Summit for Women Entrepreneurs as part of the Africa Multilateral Infrastructure, Climate Change, and Green Investment Summit (AICIS 2025), scheduled to take place from May 27 to 30, 2025, in Abuja. Under the theme, “To Achieve the UN Climate Change Action on Blue Economy and Green Investment,” the summit reinforces Nigeria’s growing role as a major advocate for sustainable development, climate action, and green investment across Africa.
Organised by Africa Business Ventures and Investment Group in partnership with the Nigerian Presidency, the event is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants, including government officials, investors, business executives, development institutions, and civil society stakeholders. The gathering will focus on unlocking Africa’s estimated $12 trillion green economy potential while advancing investment opportunities across the continent.

The summit aims to strengthen Africa’s contribution to the global climate agenda by aligning with the goals of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the outcomes of COP29. Discussions will centre on renewable energy, blue economy initiatives, climate-smart infrastructure, sustainable agriculture, and environmentally focused development projects.
A major highlight of the summit is its dedicated emphasis on women entrepreneurs and their expanding role in environmental governance and green innovation. This aligns with Nigeria’s recent validation of the Green Women Platform (GWP), a national initiative created to increase women’s participation in climate governance, natural resource management, and environmental decision-making.
Through the platform, women entrepreneurs are expected to gain broader access to opportunities in renewable energy, reforestation, sustainable agriculture, recycling, and green enterprise development. The initiative also supports progress toward key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 5 on gender equality, SDG 13 on climate action, SDG 15 on life on land, and SDG 1 on poverty reduction.
The summit further connects with broader continental programmes such as the Global African Women’s Sustainability Conference 2.0, scheduled for April 29 to May 1, 2026. That conference aims to provide African women entrepreneurs with improved access to financing, sustainability tools, international partnerships, and global trade opportunities to help scale environmentally focused businesses.
Together, these initiatives reflect a growing recognition across Africa that women-led innovation and entrepreneurship are essential for building climate resilience, promoting inclusive economic growth, and advancing long-term environmental sustainability.
By combining high-level policy dialogue with targeted support for women entrepreneurs, Nigeria hopes to scale women-led climate projects, create green jobs, strengthen community resilience, and position Africa as a leading destination for green investment.
More significantly, the summit highlights a broader shift in Africa’s climate agenda: women are increasingly moving from the margins of environmental policy to the centre of shaping the continent’s green economic future.
