TPC Considers Developing A Digital Shopping Platform

Tanzania’s Post Corporation (TPC) is considering plans to create an online marketing platform with which to take advantage of the growing e-commerce sector in the country.

The Acting Postmaster General of the Corporation, Macrice Mbondo, revealed the determination behind the pursuit in Dar es Salaam during the launch of a partnership with CRDB wakala aimed at improving the services of the Corporation outside the bricks and mortar.

According to him, flourishing online businesses in the country have prompted the corporation to look towards e-commerce as the next step in improving its service to become the most efficient online marketing service provider in Tanzania and Africa.

“We are determined and want TPC to be Alibaba and Amazon,” he said, noting that as of July this year 270 large and small businesses had registered at the online postal service to sell various products. He explained that with a digital platform, the corporation will address challenges customers face in the purchase and sale of various goods, including deposit and withdrawal money by mobile phone.

This is in addition to TPC’s Smart Posta service which serves as a digital platform created to transform postal services operations into digital format. The platform is accessible via mobile phones acting as a virtual box. Its ease of use is to ensure that bring anyone with a mobile phone can have access to the postal service.
