The prestigious certificate of listing was presented during the 16th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) ceremony on 3 July 2026 at the UK House of Lords in London. This honour places Dr Nsekela among an elite cohort of financial leaders shaping the continent’s economic future.

Dr Nsekela’s leadership at CRDB Bank has been defined by a bold vision for regional expansion and climate-resilient finance. Under his stewardship, CRDB Bank made history by becoming the first commercial bank in East and Central Africa to secure accreditation as a Direct Access Entity by the United Nations Green Climate Fund (GCF), unlocking critical financing for sustainable development projects across the region.

His strategic direction has also driven CRDB Bank’s expansion beyond Tanzania, with successful market entries into Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside establishing a strategic presence at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Domestically, the bank has deepened its commitment to inclusive finance through targeted programmes supporting trade finance for local African SMEs.

The commercial results under Dr Nsekela’s leadership underscore this momentum. In the first quarter of 2026, CRDB Bank delivered a profit after tax of TZS 206.2 billion, representing an 18.9% year-on-year increase. Total assets grew to TZS 23.9 trillion, customer deposits reached TZS 16.2 trillion, and net loans and advances climbed to TZS 14.7 trillion, reinforcing CRDB’s position as Tanzania’s leading bank across all major metrics.

In a further testament to his commitment to excellence, Dr Nsekela recently graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management Sciences from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in June 2026. His doctoral research focused on corporate governance frameworks and minimising systemic information leakage within East African banking ecosystems.

The African Leadership Magazine Top 40 African Finance Leaders list recognises outstanding individuals whose leadership, strategic vision, and commitment to excellence are catalysing Africa’s financial sector transformation and advancing inclusive economic growth across the continent.
