Mr Ali is a seasoned Tanzanian mining executive currently leading STAMIGOLD Company Limited, a state-owned gold mining enterprise under the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO). He oversees the operations of the STAMIGOLD Biharamulo Mine, located in Tanzania’s Kagera Region, and has been pivotal in expanding exploration efforts to extend the mine’s operational life beyond 2026.
Under his leadership, STAMIGOLD identified 86,000 ounces of mineral resources in the 2020/21 financial year through additional drilling within its Special Mining License. The company has also collaborated with the Geological Survey of Tanzania and the University of Dar es Salaam on preliminary explorations in four Prospecting Licences, aiming to increase its resource base further.
Mr Ali prioritises sustainable mining and environmental rehabilitation. He has overseen the implementation of a Mine Closure Plan approved by the Mining Commission, which includes activities such as tree planting and backfilling excavated pits to restore disturbed areas. Since STAMIGOLD began operations in 2014, it has produced more than twice the initially planned gold ounces, a testament to the commitment of Tanzanian mining experts under his leadership.
STAMIGOLD Company Limited, incorporated in October 2013, is Tanzania’s only state-owned gold mining company, with STAMICO holding 99.998% of its shares. The company focuses on gold mining, processing, and geological exploration within the Biharamulo Forest Reserve. It is committed to local content development, employing Tanzanian staff and providing training in occupational health and safety, environmental management, and public procurement regulations.
Mr Ali’s involvement in the Africa Summit London will provide valuable perspectives on mining sector innovation, sustainable resource management, and fostering local economic growth. His participation will contribute significantly to discussions on Africa’s development and investment opportunities.
