The prestigious award was presented during a ceremony at the House of Lords in Westminster, London, where Mr Alade was also formally inducted into the selective African Leadership Council (ALC). In a further mark of distinction, he received a U.S. Special Commendation from the State of South Carolina during the global event, underscoring the international significance of his achievements.
Appointed by President Bola Tinubu in February 2024 to lead the clean-up and stabilisation of Nigeria’s financial system, Mr Alade has brought decisive leadership to AMCON’s mandate of managing non-performing bank loans and safeguarding the nation’s macro-financial health. His strategic direction has reinforced institutional performance and renewed stakeholder confidence in one of Nigeria’s most critical financial institutions.
Mr Alade brings over three decades of international and local banking experience to the role, having previously served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Bank (UK) Limited. He specialises in Enterprise Risk Management and corporate turnarounds, skills that have proved invaluable in steering AMCON through a complex and high-stakes financial landscape.
A graduate of Banking and Finance from the University of Lagos, where he earned a First-Class degree, Mr Alade is also an alumnus of INSEAD, one of the world’s leading business schools. His academic excellence and extensive professional experience have established him as a respected authority in financial governance and institutional reform.
With this milestone, Mr Alade joins an elite cohort of past African honorees, including African Development Bank President Dr Akinwumi Adesina, further cementing his place among the continent’s most influential financial leaders.
The African Business Leadership Awards, organised by the African Leadership Organisation, publishers of African Leadership Magazine, recognise outstanding individuals and organisations whose leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence are shaping Africa’s economic transformation and sustainable development.
