Dr Brian Mushimba Receives African Business Leadership Special Commendation Award at ABLA 2026

Dr Brian Mushimba, Chief Executive Officer of GL Africa Energy Limited, Zambia, has been honoured with the African Business Leadership Special Commendation Award at the 16th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2026, in recognition of his exceptional leadership in energy development, sustainable infrastructure, and industrial growth across the African continent.

The award was presented during a distinguished ceremony at the House of Lords, London, United Kingdom, convened by African Leadership Magazine. The Special Commendation Award celebrates Dr Mushimba’s strategic vision in expanding sustainable power infrastructure, managing regional energy projects, and driving economic resilience throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

As Chief Executive Officer of GL Africa Energy Limited, Dr Mushimba directs macro-investments in power generation that are transforming the region’s energy landscape. A signature achievement under his leadership includes spearheading the critical operational revival of the Ndola Energy Power Plant, a vital intervention that has helped alleviate acute power deficits affecting communities and industries.

 

Prior to his executive corporate leadership, Dr Mushimba served the Republic of Zambia with distinction in public service. He held office as a Member of Parliament and occupied key ministerial portfolios, including Minister of Higher Education and Minister of Transport and Communications. Throughout his tenure, he was a steadfast champion for STEM education, technical skills development, and structural infrastructure upgrades, laying the groundwork for long-term national development.

 

An accomplished engineer and academic, Dr Mushimba holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Zambia and an MBA from Salem University, United States. His technical expertise is underpinned by extensive experience in senior regional roles at major international utilities, including Eskom.

 

The African Business Leadership Awards recognise outstanding individuals and organisations whose leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence are shaping Africa’s economic transformation and sustainable development.
