Mr. Bonongo Tokole is a respected figure in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s mining industry. Since taking the helm of SOKIMO in September 2022, he has led a bold transformation of the state-owned gold mining enterprise. His leadership has sparked a series of impactful reforms, from modernising key infrastructure to restoring critical assets and increasing corporate governance.

Among his notable achievements is the successful internal funding and upgrade of the TARADA leaching plant and the NIZI chemical laboratory, which have significantly improved operational capacity. Under his guidance, SOKIMO produced its first gold ingot in several years—a landmark moment that underscores the company’s renewed vitality through tailings processing.

Furthermore, Mr. Bonongo Tokole oversaw the recovery of ten previously revoked mining permits, positioning SOKIMO to reclaim its strategic presence in the national gold sector. His leadership also led to an enhanced partnership with Southern Energy, raising SOKIMO’s stake from 35% to 40% and securing 2.5 MW of power for the NIZI project.

Through a leadership style grounded in results and strategic vision, Mr. Bonongo Tokole continues to champion reforms that align with national development goals, promote value addition in mining, and strengthen DRC’s standing in Africa’s extractive industry.

His participation in the Africa Summit London will offer valuable insights into gold mining revitalization, sustainable development, and the evolving landscape of African mining partnerships. He joins a growing list of influential African leaders helping to shape the continent’s economic future through innovation, accountability, and resilience.
